Use of data when registering for the email newsletter

We only send newsletters, emails and other electronic notifications with promotional information (hereinafter “newsletter”) with the consent of the recipient or legal permission. If the contents are specifically described when registering for the newsletter, they are decisive for the user's consent. Our newsletters also contain information about our new products, offers and promotions (this may in particular include references to blog posts, lectures or workshops, our services or online presence).

  • Double opt-in and logging
Registration for our newsletter takes place in a so-called double opt-in process. This means that after you register you will receive an email asking you to confirm your registration. This confirmation is necessary so that no one can log in with someone else's email address.
Registrations for the newsletter are logged in order to be able to provide evidence of the registration process in accordance with legal requirements. This includes storing the registration and confirmation times as well as the IP address. Changes to your saved data are also logged.

  • Use of the shipping service provider “Klaviyo”
The newsletter is sent via “Klaviyo”, 225 Franklin St, Boston, MA 02110, USA.
The email addresses of our newsletter recipients, as well as their other data described in this information, are stored on Klaviyo's servers in the USA. Klaviyo uses this information to send and evaluate the newsletters on our behalf. Furthermore, Klaviyo can, according to its own information, use this data to optimize or improve its own services, for example to technically optimize the dispatch and presentation of the newsletter or for economic purposes to determine which countries the recipients come from. However, Klaviyo does not use the data of our newsletter recipients to write to them ourselves or to pass them on to third parties.
We trust Klaviyo's reliability and IT and data security. Klaviyo is certified under the US-EU data protection agreement “Privacy Shield” and is therefore obliged to comply with EU data protection regulations. We have also concluded a data processing agreement with Klaviyo. This is a contract in which Klaviyo undertakes to protect our users' data, to process it on our behalf in accordance with its data protection regulations and, in particular, not to pass it on to third parties. Here you can find Klaviyo’s privacy policy in English.

  • Login details
To register for the newsletter, all you need to do is enter your email address.
Optionally, we ask you to provide your first and last name. This information is only used to personalize the newsletter. We also ask you to optionally provide your date of birth and title. We only use this information to adapt the content of the newsletter to the interests of our readers.

  • Statistical survey and analysis
The newsletters contain a so-called “web beacon”, ie a pixel-sized file that is retrieved from the Klaviyo server when the newsletter is opened. As part of this retrieval, technical information is initially collected, such as information about the browser and your system, as well as your IP address and the time of retrieval. This information is used to technically improve the services based on the technical data or the target groups and their reading behavior based on the access locations (which can be determined using the IP address) or the access times.
The statistical surveys also include determining whether the newsletters are opened, when they are opened and which links are clicked. For technical reasons, this information can be assigned to individual newsletter recipients. However, it is neither our nor Klaviyo's intention to monitor individual users. The evaluations serve us much more to recognize the reading habits of our users and to adapt our content to them or to send different content according to the interests of our users.

  • Online access and data management
There are cases in which we direct newsletter recipients to Klaviyo's websites. For example, our newsletters contain a link with which newsletter recipients can access the newsletter online (e.g. in the event of display problems in the email program). Furthermore, newsletter recipients can subsequently correct their data, such as their email address. Klaviyo's privacy policy is also only available on their website.
In this context, we would like to point out that cookies are used on Klaviyo's websites and that personal data is processed by Klaviyo, its partners and the service providers used (e.g. Google Analytics). We have no influence on this data collection. Further information can be found in Klaviyo's privacy policy . We would also like to point out the possibility of objecting to data collection for advertising purposes on the websites http://www.aboutads.info/choices and http://www.youronlinechoices.com (for the European area).

  • Termination/revocation
You can unsubscribe from our newsletter here at any time, i.e. revoke your consent. This means that your consent to sending it via Klaviyo and the statistical analyzes will expire at the same time. Unfortunately, a separate revocation of shipping via Klaviyo or the statistical evaluation is not possible.
You will find a link to unsubscribe from the newsletter at the end of each newsletter.

Legal basis General Data Protection Regulation
In accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which applies from May 25, 2018, we inform you that consent to the sending of email addresses is based on Article 6 Paragraph 1 Letter a, 7 GDPR and Section 7 Paragraph 2 No. 3 or paragraph 3 UWG takes place. The use of the shipping service provider Klaviyo, the implementation of statistical surveys and analyzes as well as the logging of the registration process are based on our legitimate interests in accordance with Article 6 Paragraph 1 Letter f of the GDPR. Our interest is in using a user-friendly and secure newsletter system that serves our business interests as well as meets the expectations of users.
We would also like to point out that you can object to the future processing of your personal data at any time in accordance with the legal requirements in accordance with Article 21 of the GDPR. The objection can in particular be made against processing for direct advertising purposes.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time and can do so either by sending a message to the contact described in section 3.10 or via a link provided for this purpose in the newsletter.
